Is your Content fresh, exciting, engaging, juicy?
Easy ways to tap into your own CREATIVITY for this – YES!
Being a teensy bit edgy and fresh keeps the peeps ENGAGED.
And when we enhance Creativity in our work, our clients benefit, and so do we!
So how can we get those creative juices flowing with ease?
Here are 9 EASY ways you can, and without really having to do anything hard.
In fact, I bet you would enjoy everything on this list!
Try it and let me know!
#1 — Get into the “Dreamer / Creator” state.
In the NLP realm, we understand three stages of Creation:
- Dreamer / Creator – Comes up with ideas, is limitless.
- Designer / Planner – Plots and plans out the logistics.
- Critic / Editor – Finds the flaws, crops, edits, re-vises.
If you are trying to craft edgy, exciting new things from the CRITIC state, you are already working tooooo hard!!
Our Critic exists to perfect, to ground us back down to earth at times, but NOT to Conjure.
Note to Self: Critics can’t CONJURE.
Conjuring happens in the Dreamer / Creator state, where possibilities are limitless, rules can be broken, and logistics don’t matter.
If that makes you uncomfortable, don’t worry — You’ll need to get into the Critic state when it’s time to crop and edit, and then into the Planner state when it’s time to plot out the “how and when” you’ll share this work.
But, just for now, suspend that judg-y Critic, and let your Dreamer take over.
NO RULES. NO LIMITS – Just for right now.
It’s safe to allow your Dreamer out to play, if only for a little bit (or longer, up to you!!)
#2 — Get into the Alpha Brain wave.
This is the state of “twilight” in between asleep and awake.
We move into Alpha (and sometimes the even deeper Theta wave) when we are under Hypnosis.
In that state, we are deeply relaxed, suggestible, open to new ideas and new beliefs.
(P.S. That’s why we use it to change beliefs!)
It’s great for CONTENT Creation. You can also get there through meditation, relaxation techniques, and yoga nidra.
By moving into this deeply relaxed and creative state, you may emerge filled with exciting new ideas!
#3 — Take in and appreciate various forms of ART.
Whether you love looking at paintings and sculpture, listening to music, reading a novel, or enjoying a film, being a consumer of all art forms enhances creativity.
Allow yourself to move more frequently into a place of appreciation for other people’s genius creations.
By standing in awe and enjoyment, you let your own innate creativity become more free-flowing.
You can also participate in an art form if you feel so inspired, but it’s not required.
Merely appreciating art will be enough to get some of the juices flowing!
#4 — Get HAPPY.
When we release the neurotransmitters Dopamine and Seratonin, we unleash Creativitiy.
Dopamine is connected with feeling energized, whilst Seratonin is affiliated with contentment.
When we have a state of energized calm, from which we have the stamina to produce along with a sense of contentment, we tend to do some fabulous creating.
So getting into that state of HAPPY really helps with creative flow.
You can get there through various means, including exercise, yoga, a walk in nature, massage, Hypnotherapy, meditation, the list goes on and on!
Find what gets you to this version of Happy, and experiment.
The goal is a sort of eager calm – excited but relaxed enough to concentrate.
So you can finally say that massage, yoga class, etc. is essential to your work!
#5 — Believe in “6 Impossible Things Before Breakfast.”
This concept is modified from Alice in Wonderland, but the principle is the same.
You want to suspend disbelief in things that have seemed impossible for you, and allow an openness to believing they ARE possible.
It’s always useful to clean up some old, limiting beliefs (for which Hypnosis and Visualization are fab tools).
Why keep carrying around beliefs that things won’t work out for you, or you can’t be successful?
Believing in more possibilities immediately stimulates creativity.
Suddenly there are ideas for things you never thought possible!
You can temporarily suspend what you know from past experience, and open yourself up to the possibility that the future might be different.
When we release crappy beliefs about things being impossible, we can completely change everything!
#6 — Listen to material from people who disagree with you.
I do this, and to be honest, sometimes I listen with gritted teeth. BUT I still listen.
It’s really healthy for our creativity to get new perspectives.
And it also challenges our logical mind at the same time.
So even if it sometimes feels a little confronting, it’s worth it occasionally to take in some content from alternative views that maybe somewhat or even very strongly disagree with yours.
And, you just might learn something new!
If nothing else, it will give you some new fodder for your Content and the chance to examine your topics from new angles.
Variety can be the spice of Creativity!
#7 — To the extent you’re able, get enough SLEEP.
A rested, relaxed mind is a creative mind.
It sure can be a challenge to think in new and creative ways when we are exhausted, moody, tired and stressed out.
And I totally GET that sleep is not in everyone’s control, so before you conjure a bajillion reasons why you’re not getting adequate sleep, just hear me out!
To the best of your ability, within the available margins you have to work with, and particularly on days when you know you want to create something new or exciting, try to sleep the night before.
Naps can really help too! One of my favorite things to do when I’m a bit tired and grumpy is pop on a Hypnosis Recording and casually dip out for a nap. Works a treat for my migraine days too.
Sleep is so good for health overall, but particularly for creative flow.
#8 — Let go of both Failure and SUCCESS.
We don’t usually think of Success as prohibitive – usually just failure.
Most of us are well-versed with understanding the fears of failure with our work.
But success can inhibit creativity in unexpected ways.
When we think we already know what yields success – whether we measure that by financial gain, accolades or some other metric – We may tend to get stuck doing that.
It can be especially scary to try something new after we’ve had a lot of success doing the same old thing.
In some ways, those who’ve experienced more failure are quite enviable – think about it, they have nothing to lose. Nothing they’ve tried has worked, so it’s easy to try something new.
But success can really hold us back creatively.
So it’s a great reminder that just because something did or did not work for us previously, is NOT always an indicator of what will happen next.
Even if something has been successful, that doesn’t mean it always will – Have a look at Blockbuster and Netflix.
CHANGE and growth will always be needed!
How you measure Success can shift too. What IS Success to you?
How did you FEEL whilst creating that thing, in addition to the measurable outcomes?
Don’t be afraid to try something new just because one thing or another has yielded a particular result in the past.
#9 — Be an ever-evolving lifelong Student.
The more you expose yourself to new ideas, the more creative you will continue to be.
Creativity needs fodder and fuel — A supply of rich experiences and learning.
Keep learning from others.
Try approaching every person as a teacher with something important to show you.
Become the student with a gorgeous Growth Mindset, as the horizon of your creative landscape expands!
