What's our biggest reason for needing Hypnosis?
Here is something you may not have considered.
People sometimes ask what they might need or use Hypnosis for.
They want to know about how it works, and when it’s useful.
They’ll say, “Is it good for anxiety?” or “Is it effective for weight release?” and many others.
Of course, the answer to that is, YES, it’s good for these and MANY other subjects, but there is a missing element in that discussion.
And that is… We need Hypnosis because we are already hypnotized.
#1 - Stories & Beliefs
When we talk about being “already hypnotized,” while this might sound alarming, when you take a step back and look at how our brains work, it makes much more sense.
As social creatures, we are very susceptible to internalizing the beliefs of people who are important to us – whether they are family, friends, or famous people.
Moreover, they don’t even have to be all that important if the message is compelling, repetitive, or in line with our other existing beliefs and stories.
And often, the beliefs we carry fly in the face of logic and fact.
Have you ever encountered someone truly wonderful or beautiful or talented who authentically looked in the mirror with self-loathing?
Have you ever encountered two people who believed opposing things, but each wholeheartedly was die-hard certain they had the one correct view?
Have you ever had the sudden realization that something you believed for a long time actually wasn’t true?
We base most of our decisions on our beliefs. That’s why it’s so life-altering when something occurs and we discover that a belief we always were certain was true really wasn’t, or no longer is. (And why children are often devastated when they learn about Santa from someone at school).
Beliefs are everything. They inform our actions and decisions, and are responsible for all or most of our experience, how we filter and perceive it, and how we respond.
Hypnosis is not much more than a systematic process for instilling or integrating new beliefs.
So when we say you are already hypnotized, it’s just that you already have beliefs, some of which you hold quite strongly.
#2 - Not All Stories Are Equal.
So everyone has a set of Stories or beliefs, and we could scarcely survive without them, especially from a social standpoint.
There are plenty of examples of healthy or at least neutral stories. We may have a Story about our family history that is really valuable and meaningful, and describes characteristics that link us closely with our kin (like “Lannisters always pay their debts”- Sorry, couldn’t resist, LOL).
Or there may be a Story about what “husbands ought to do,” or “what mothers do,” that bring you positive feelings when you perform those duties. Much of the time, our shared Stories or beliefs are valuable for social connection.
However, there are Stories that may lay deep inside that HARM us. They hold us back. Stories like, “I don’t deserve to be happy,” or “No matter what, I’m always unlucky in relationships,” or “No matter how hard I work, I will never succeed or gain wealth.”
When a Story is present that is an absolute, containing beliefs about what you “always do,” or can “never have,” it is considered Limiting.
The limitation comes when that Story informs beliefs, choices, and behavior.
For examples, if you genuinely believed (perhaps at a subconscious level) that “No matter how hard I work, I will never succeed at business,” then a few things follow.
First, there’s not much incentive to “work hard” or do “all the things” in an effort towards success, because the “formula” reads that, no matter what you do, a successful outcome is impossible – at least for you. A lot of times the belief only applies to oneself – the person can observe other people doing things and succeeding, but they’re sure it won’t work for them, no matter what.
And it’s important to focus in on the “no matter what.”
Because linguistics light the path for us to help discern if something may be informed by logic, or is actually Limiting.
It’s logical to think you might not be successful at something, if you’ve never done it before. It’s logical to think it might be challenging, or even SO difficult that you don’t even wish to do it.
But the logical fallacy comes when the belief contains “always,” or “never” or “no matter what.” And when it applies only to you. Because there isn’t much logic to that.
Stories that are Limiting in that way actually hinder us from our goals, and often we aren’t even consciously aware of them.
It took me many years to realize I had a limiting belief that relationships just couldn’t work out for me because I have a health condition, and it wasn’t until I caught that belief, and finally opened up to the possibility that maybe I was WRONG about that, that I actually met my husband and “allowed it” to work out.
When you start to look more closely, you can sometimes begin to see that “matrix” code that is actually writing the script of your entire life.
#3 - Our Subconscious Stories Impact Our Biz & Marketing.
When we believe something deeply, and especially when it’s subconscious (beneath our awareness), we make all of our decisions based upon that Story being the truth.
We orient our world around it. We move towards, or away, from situations, people, projects, and opportunities based on it.
Going back to the example of “No matter how hard I work, I’ll never succeed” — If that is held as true, it might be “lived out” as shunning hard work because it won’t pay off anyway, OR it could be “lived out” as working one’s tail off without ever expecting to see a genuine result.
Both sets of behavior are self-defeating, and even worse, they both lead to a result that continues to perpetuate and prove the original belief.
Until the Story or belief itself is changed, the person may continue to repeat cycles of one or the other, and remain in an ongoing state of non-success. (We can’t even say “failure” because they haven’t genuinely tried at it to experience failure, which actually would have been more beneficial).
Your beliefs also come through in your Marketing, Content & Copy.
If you silently think you’re something of a modest genius, in a completely humble and respectable way, your audience will know. And if you secretly think your work isn’t worth a dime, they will FEEL that too — even if they wholeheartedly disagree with that and really like you.
It’s difficult to hide our subconscious beliefs from our audience, and if nothing else, those beliefs will turn up in our results.
We will ultimately keep living out that Story.
They’re also visible in our choices, actions, and behavior. When you walk into a room of people you know like you, you may walk in with confidence, speak a certain way, carry a certain demeanor. And it’s likely to be different from how you’d feel and behave if you were told that the room full of people were hostile towards you, or unhappy – you might proceed with some caution or moderate your words.
Our beliefs inform our actions and choices, and also may lead us to accept – or decline – various opportunities that approach us.
Where there is confidence, there may be a greater willingness to take a risk, or join something new, or participate versus remain uninvolved. Where there is a belief that we can succeed — that at least the possibility is there, and failure is not a foregone conclusion — there is likely going to be a greater effort to try.
Some of the WORST sales copy happens when we get to the space of “Oh what’s the use.”
When we get to a place of “It’s just going to be crickets anyway, why bother?” it can become that “self-fulfilling prophecy,” where we expect a lack of interest, so we stop asking for the sale, or we present it in such a half-hearted or robotic way that it falls flat.
So… It’s not so much a question of “What is Hypnosis good for?” It’s effective for every example we talked about here, and so many others.
It’s more a question of – “In what ways are you already hypnotized, and… what do you want to do about it?”
