Does your content feel purposeful?
Or does it feel pointless, leaving you overwhelmed and “OVER IT?”
You may just need an infusion of purpose!
Sometimes we put ourselves into a position where we feel obligated to continuously crank out fresh, new, and exciting content for our audience.
But we don’t always have a purpose or a reason why we are doing that.
So here are 3 tips to bring back the passion, purpose and point to your Content!
When you have a purpose for your content, and there is some strategy behind it, not only do you have to work less hard, you begin to really enjoy what you’re doing much more!
#1 — Be Intentional. Use Content Pillars.
Make sure the content you’re generating is connected to central pillars in your business or services.
(Oh, by the way, have you got content pillars?)
Content Pillars are key, repeating themes that represent the whole of your work and offerings. And most of the content you create will directly relate to one of your pillars.
You could select 3-4 pillars that broadly encompass what you tend to talk about and what you offer, and then support those themes with varied content.
Here are a few examples of various businesses and what their pillars may be.
Keep in mind, these are general examples, but the more specific you can get, the better!
- Health related business – Sleep, Diet, Emotional well being
- Design business – Importance of visual representation, choosing the right branding, ensuring your biz looks profesh
- Marketing business – Niching, Value proposition, Sales copy
- What I use – Content, Creativity, Magical Mindset
If you find you’ve gone all hodge-podge and your themes are all over the place, that could contribute to content fatigue and pointlessness, because you’ve lost the plot!
As you craft new content, check in with your pillars – Are you staying true to those key areas you’ve chosen to represent your work?
#2 — Connect back to what you actually OFFER and do.
It’s true that we intuitives get downloads and nudges and inspirations to share certain messages.
And that’s all fine!
Just be sure that you can craft a connecting point to an audience who is trying to follow along at home.
Draw connecting lines from today’s content message back to something tangible you can help with.
Otherwise they may get all excited about what you’re talking about in this cool video, go to your website and discover your services are toooootally unrelated to that cool thing. Guess where that could lead them? #disappointment
You really want to respect your audience’s attention and time.
Let’s not forget that your content is also intending to attract in fabulous matches to your work.
Unless you’re an entertainer by trade, it’s not just providing cool and interesting topics for random folks to watch and then delete.
Channel that gorgeous energy into creating things that are BOTH inspiring AND support your business.
Consider: What do you want to have happen after they take in this content?
It doesn’t necessarily have to equate to them booking in or working with you, but perhaps it is to lead them to feel a particular way about your work or about the topic you covered.
#3 — Make it FUN. Make it EASY.
Arrange your content process in such a way that it’s more than ticking off another f-ing boring task!
The more difficult and complicated you make it, the heavier it feels.
And the more it feels like a task or chore, the less you will want to do it — the less you WILL do it. And even when you DO do it, you will hate it.
Don’t do that to yourself!!
There’s no need to box yourself into a cookie-cutter plan that feels like poop and try to make yourself follow it.
Figure out what works for YOU.
How do you most enjoy crafting content? What time of day / month / year is it easiest? Do you love cranking it out at once or a blog at a time? Do you know how to batch by energy?
There. Is. No. One. Right. Way.
Oh, and when you get a genius idea flowing in, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN to capture it THEN.
Ideas:
- Keep a running “notes” files in your cell phone
- Send yourself an email
- Keep a notebook and pen in your purse
- If you’re driving, use “Siri” to send yourself a text
Remember to HAVE FUN with your content process; be PLAYFUL!
It doesn’t have to be hard!
How can you be creative with this?
What other ideas can you add?
By making your content purposeful instead of random, not only will it be more effective, it’ll be muuuuch more fun!
